Making focus feel like a place worth returning to
The key insight
Productivity tools often add pressure before the work begins. Study Buddy needed to keep the structure people rely on while replacing the clinical dashboard feeling with warmth, play, and a sense of company.
The design direction
We organized the timer, task list, music, and utilities into one paper-and-ink workspace, then gave it themes and a responsive Nookling companion so progress could feel tangible without becoming distracting.
Build a world around the way people focus
The companion family gives each theme its own personality while keeping the product recognizable. Together, the characters make Study Buddy feel welcoming before a timer has even started.
Make the companion feel alive, not distracting
A compact animation system lets the Nookling rest, walk, celebrate, study, and respond to the session. The reactions add a sense of progress while the working interface stays calm and predictable.
